Die EU-Kommission hat die dritte Runde der Innovation Fund Hydrogen Auction über die Hydrogen Bank gestartet. Zur Verfügung steht ein Fördervolumen von 1,3 Milliarden Euro für Wasserstofferzeugungsprojekte. Unterstützt werden Vorhaben mit einer Elektrolysekapazität ab 5 MWel, die RFNBO oder – erstmals in dieser Runde – LCH aus Elektrolyse produzieren. Die Förderung wird zusätzlich zum Wasserstoffverkaufspreis gewährt und über einen Zeitraum von zehn Jahren je verkauftem Kilogramm H2 ausgezahlt.

Für Projektentwickler eröffnet sich damit eine sehr gute Chance, Fördergelder zu sichern, um Projekte im derzeit schwierigen Marktumfeld wirtschaftlich realisieren zu können.

Der Call ist seit dem 4. Dezember 2025 geöffnet und läuft bis zum 19. Februar 2026.

Während die erste Ausschreibungsrunde aus Sicht der EU ein großer Erfolg war, zeigte die zweite Runde ein gemischteres Bild: Im General Topic wurden zwar 12 Projekte mit Gebotspreisen bis 0,6 €/kg bezuschlagt, doch sieben Projekte – darunter zwei aus Deutschland – zogen ihr Gebot vor Vertragsabschluss zurück. Nun sind mehrere Projekte von der Reserveliste nachgerückt, zuletzt sogar mit einem Preis von 1,22 €/kg. Die vergangene Runde hat damit gezeigt: Auch strategische Gebote können erfolgreich sein.

The EU Commission has launched the third round of the Innovation Fund Hydrogen Auction via the Hydrogen Bank. A total of €1.3 billion in funding is available for hydrogen production projects. Support will be provided for projects with an electrolysis capacity of 5 MWel or more that produce RFNBO or—for the first time in this round—LCH from electrolysis. The funding is granted in addition to the hydrogen sales price and is paid out over a period of ten years per kilogram of H2 sold.

This opens up a good opportunity for project developers to secure funding to economically realize projects in the currently difficult market environment.

The call has been open since December 4, 2025, and will run until February 19, 2026.

While the first round of tenders was a great success from the EU's perspective, the second round presented a more mixed picture: In the General Topic, 12 projects with bid prices of up to €0.6/kg were awarded, but seven projects – including two from Germany – withdrew their bids before the contract was signed. Several projects from the reserve list have now moved up, the last move up even at a price of €1.22/kg. The last round has thus shown that even strategic bids can be successful.
